So, I saw The Day After Tomorrow. It was exactly what I expected it to be, very american, very big, a little corny and perfectly entertaining. I must admit I really enjoyed it... and the effects looked rather good to me. It's ok for films to be purely entertainment, when they're not packaged to be anything more than that. No false expectations. So if you want two hours of just forgetting about your head and any complex problems, do go see it. Oh and Jake was cute enough, but god did he make me feel old. Must say that Dennis Quaid and his old school charm did it for me this time...

I almost bought a Holga today, but in the end opted for a 4-lens lomo. It's quite good fun. :D Can't wait to see the results. But this whole having to wait for the film to finish and then get it developed is quite odd you know. I think digital has made me too impatient.

Eve moved into the same block of flats we live in today. How cool is that. :D

Absolutely no time for Big Brother all day. How shocking is that! But I have sorted my computer out however... archived a load of stuff (cleared about 13GB of space!) and defragmented drives and all sorts.

Big Brother has started. The live stream works. Apparently you're not supposed to be able to get 4Broadband outside of the UK... well lucky for me I have registered whilst living in England. Yay. By the way, all the men are just weird. Stuart was alright before I found out he was Head Boy and belongs to a group who call themselves the 'handsome team'. Erm.

Yes, anyways... expect regular updates on the subject for the next ten weeks. :D

Have I already stated how much the new blogger annoys me?

Mmmm Friday. I really need a quiet and relaxed weekend. So many things have been going on (and are going on) that I just need to completely empty my head and recharge. Thank god I haven't arranged any shoots or nuttin for this weekend.

I bought Fellini's Roma and Satyricon on DVD from the airport. Can't wait to see Roma again. It's like my all time favourite film. I used to have it on video, but then my psychopathic roommate managed to 'accidentally' destroy it back in -95. (Mind, she did threaten me with a knife as well at some point, so not quite sure how accidental the accident was). I haven't seen it since. Wow, that's almost ten years... I wonder if it still will be as wonderful as it is in my memory. We shall soon find out. :D

On Sunday I'm thinking of going to see The Day After Tomorrow. I know it'll probably be a bit naff and stuff, but I quite enjoy big catastrophe films. And those have to be seen on the big screen as well, otherwise there's really not much point. Besides, Jake Gyllenhaal.... *drool*

Ohh and Big Brother UK starts tonight and as I'm not in the UK again this summer, I am forced to watch the online streaming. However, there's no website up yet or anything and I'm getting a bit panicky. You see, I am a bit obsessed with it and I have to watch it every summer. Umm. WHERE has the website gone? It always used to open before the show. Oh oh and the forums won't let me in with my old username either. It's all a big conspiracy....

Ok sorry! I know I haven't written anything in ages, but it's just because I literally haven't had any time at all. It's been infernally busy in the office and as Stu was in England for the weekend, I wasn't going to waste that time by the computer...

I managed to burn my chest on Sunday sitting in the garden. People keep coming up to me and saying 'Ohh you're so brown! ...oh no, more like pink actually...' Hummph. Nice. Oh and apparently it will turn into brown anytime now. Can't wait personally.

I'm off to Finland tomorrow, here's hoping the weather will pick up there. Surely it will once I'm present. Yup. Can't believe Big Brother starts on Friday and I won't see it (other than online). Apparently this year it's going to be 'evil'. They have a small uncomfortable house with bunk beds and plastic sofas and what not. With mirrors tilted so they create an even more claustrophobic feeling. Oh yeah and the shower has a glass wall to the garden. :D

Everyone keep their fingers crossed for Stu at this very moment.

Anyways, back to work.

Why why?

I should blog more often... maybe this wouldn't have come as such a shock. Blogger has changed completely... for the worse. There's nothing I hate more than design over functionality, and as far a usability is conserned, blogger has taken a huge step backwards. Can't easily see the entries, everything is behind buttons and tabs. So very annoying. This is worse than the stripped down version I used to get on a Mac. Argh.

And it's so cold now I'm considering socks. I will not give in though.

A big thunderstorm just passed over. Lots of lightnings and thundering... and then heavy rain. It's starting to clear up now and everything smells so fresh and lovely. I like summer storms, they freshen everything up so nicely.

I've been trying to get my head around my tax form today. It's giving me a headache. Never live and work in a different country kids... Anyways, I'm going in the tax office tomorrow with my bagfull of papers and am going to let someone there to sort it out. Or at least help me... Hmm.

Been feeling in a bit of a slump today generally. Everything's a bit... bleugh. Too many things to do and no energy to do anything. I'd just want to jack everything in and photograph full-time. Oops. Didn't mean to say that out loud. And actually, I don't even know if I would really want that... since after that shooting would prolly start feeling more like work and not fun anyways. Doing anything full-time tends to have that affect.

Added these to the gallery. I like the way they turned out, considering I shot about 35 frames in 15 minutes and that was it. I think the colours are rather yummy.

I'm having a bit of a dilemma. The 'Portraits' section is full (well has been from the get-go) and the other sections are heading that way too. At the moment if I want to put new portraits up I take some of the less nicer ones down. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to have multiple galleries, i.e. Portraits 1 2 3 etc., or just keep them on one page and change the pics randomly to more recent ones. Any opinions? Damn, Paul is studying for exams so I can't even whine at him about this... I'm sure he would come up with a brilliant plan... Hmm.

I finally got to see the little man. He was a week old today and sooo cute. It's such a weird thing, creating life... Can't get over it really. I took a load of piccies and if you want to see more of them click on the picture below. I must note that the parents haven't slept for a week so they're not exactly at their most glamorous...

It was an insanely hot day today (for May). The temperature got to about +28C and there was hardly any wind. The nature has blossomed and it feels like a proper summer. So, I hereby declare the flip-flop season opened.

Nikki and Ian went home on sunday, which made the atmosphere a bit... deflated. It's not nice when something you've waited for a long time has suddenly passed you by. Oh well, at least the weather has been trying it's best to cheer us up. The world is finally starting to look green. Yesterday was such a beautiful day, and *so* hot. We went to stroll around Helsinki and sat in the sun on Esplanade. Perfect end to a holiday really. Although I wouldn't mind staying on hols for the whole of the summer actually... oh well.

I have a load of work to catch up with at the moment, but there are ideas for photographs brewing at the back of my mind. I hope to shoot Mirka soon, perhaps as early as next weekend(?). And it looks like I'm shooting Jenni again some time at the end of this month. I have some ideas for her gorgeous hair. I'm also hoping to come up with some more conceptual work, even if at the moment I'm quite enjoying the 'pretty picture' phase I'm in. Oh and when I finally get to see Johanna's baby... I don't think there will be anything stopping me and my camera. :)

I received my (massive) Mario Testino Portraits, which I ordered, and it is very gorgeous.

Also got Cecil Beaton's Portraits, which is full of beautiful pictures, but I'll let it inspire me more when I'm back in a B&W mood again... Unfortunately I've now fallen into the trap of absolutely loving having big photography books to look at when ever I feel like it and now I'm lusting after Bettina Rheims's More Trouble... even bigger than the Testino one and costs about 100 euros... somebody stop me. Every picture in it is just so gorgeous from start to end though... *sigh*

Yummy looking films.
I've had this yummy film list up on DA before. Might as well put it up here as well and see if anyone would come up with more suggestions.

A few weeks ago I finally got around watching Kieslowski's Three Colours trilogy (I know it's a shame I hadn't seen them before ok) and fell in love with Blue. Every inch of film was so meticulously composed and the imagery supported the mood of the film superbly. So that's my recent addition to the list.

Also, The Cell was on TV the other night and the 'inside the brain' scenes were as spectacular as ever. Who needs a plot when there's so much to look at. :D

So, anyone seen any other yummy films lately?

Amelie
Moulin Rouge
Roma
Tacones lejanos
12 Monkeys
Blade Runner
The Lord of the Rings (whole trilogy)
Romeo + Juliet
Les Parapluies de Cherbourg
The Matrix
The Ring
Minority Report
The Cell
Edward Scissorhands
Satyricon
Trois couleurs: Bleu

The party went well (from what I can remember) even if everyone felt decidedly awful this morning. Still managed to do some vappu sightseeing in Helsinki today however. Aren't we good. Here's a little gallery of random pictures taken some time during last night. I think one thing Ian learned (apart from realising his nether region attracted balloons) was never to fall asleep when there are drunken women in scary flowery dresses around.
