My new baby is enjoying the new fluffy bedding as much as I am it seems. Yesterday’s Ikea trip was exhausting, but totally worth it in the end. It feels like the bed has been upgraded to a new standard.
Today’s been a busy day of cleaning, scrubbing and getting old quilts and sheets packed away for Oxfam. There’s still some stuff to do, like the kitchen, which is a tip, but mostly the flat is already feeling fresher, calmer and airier.

When I’m done with rest of the cleaning I’m going to finally dive into this month’s magazines.

Aren’t these just the prettiest trainers you’ve ever seen?? Thank you eBay! <3

I’m using the joy of the pretty new trainers as an attempt to distract myself from the frustration over the stupidity of my office’s new policy to block just about anything you could do online. No more flickr, no more facebook, no more Jaiku, not even personal blogs! Pfft. Moronic. Some would say fascist even. This will seriously hamper my plans to take over the world.
There was one nice thing that happened today though (since I got the trainers on Saturday already they don’t really qualify for today’s nice things) and that was having lunch with the lovely Anne. It was quite relaxing to get a bit of a ‘Finnish break’ in the middle of a frustrating work day. :D

I just got home and these cute little things I’d ordered from Punky Pins were waiting for me. Gotta love the mixtape necklace!
It’s been a super hectic week, press day getting close again. And my new hobby seems to be stealing most of my free time! I am having fun with it though, new ideas keep popping up. The week is not slowing down any though, Alanis tomorrow and on Friday night Sooz and I are going to some night photography thing (read: a 5-mile hike from 11pm to 4am). Come Saturday I will most likely be dead on my feet.
Finally watched Capote last night. Was very good indeed, like I had anticipated. Philip Seymour Hoffman was just astonishingly good, he was Truman Capote and yet he was a human being. And the rest of the production supported his brilliant role beautifully, from set design to cinematography to supporting roles. Pure cinematic bliss.

Tänään kynsissä Go 4 it vol 2 shopista saapunutta Essien lakkaa sävyssä Mademoiselle. Oikein nätti ja luonnollisen pinkki sävy näin kesäpäivään. Iloisena yllätyksenä paketista löytyi myös tilaajapalkintona voittamani Max Factorin MasterpieceMAX ripsari. :)

Today was pretty yawn-inducing and loooong. The weather outside is lovely though, it’s nice to at least be able to see the sun, even if it’s through an office window.
When I got home the new Glamour had finally arrived and with it came a surprise pressie in the form of Benefit Her Glossiness lip gloss. Yummy colour as well. Since it went so well with my yesterday’s H&M; purchases – a clutch bag and some colourful bangles and a weird necklace – I let them pose together. I think I’m slowly turning pink all over, must keep on eye on that…
Now it’s already 8pm and I suppose I’d better start making some dinner. I don’t know where all the hours in the day go. Oh, yes I do. Bummer.
Oh oh, one more thing. I got tickets for S, Riina and me to go to a picnic concert titled ‘The music of Dirty Dancing’ at Audley End House in July. :D I have no idea what it’ll be like (lame most likely) but I couldn’t miss the opportunity of spending some quality time with Riina, since the concert is practically at her doorstep. And in case you’re wondering how I talked S into going… well the following day is our wedding anniversary, so he couldn’t very well deny me some Dirty Dancing romancing could he! :P

Christ, when did I manage to subscribe to so many magazines. And the new Glamour hasn’t even come out yet! Have no idea when I’ll have time to read all of them. I wouldn’t normally subscribe to all of these, but I got a Glamour subscription with my Nectar points, the Red subscription was some sort of £10 for 6 months campaign and I got a year’s free subscription to LivingEtc with my mobile phone contract (although that’s probably the one magazine I would subscribe to even if I had to pay). Can’t quite remember why I’m getting the Digital SLR Photography one though. Hmm. Oh and Domino was a spur of the moment thing as I saw pages of it on Flickr or somewhere and it looked interesting. Haven’t looked at it yet so don’t know if it was worth it! The paper is very light weight though, as it’s an American magazine, not sure why even the high end magazines are printed on such cheap paper in the US.

Oh well, can’t start reading now as have to go make din din!

Just found out that Antonia has landed a new posh job and is leaving in 6 weeks. It makes me sad since she’s really nice and now I won’t have the chance to get to know her better. When I came here for an interview my first impression was that this place was a bit stuffy and scarily similar to my old stuffy work environment. Antonia was the first person I met when she came to greet me and brought me up for my ‘test’. She was so nice and relaxed (and young!) that I thought, hmm, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad here after all… So it really bums me out that she’s leaving so soon after I started. Well, at least there’s leaving drinks to look forward to!
Heard from Matt today. Everything at the old office sounds like business as usual (it’s press week there as well). The usual entailing the not so pleasant atmosphere and difficult managers. In a way I really miss it there, especially certain people, but at the same time I’m also relieved that I don’t have to deal with that atmosphere anymore. Really should get around to arranging meeting up with folks from there though.
The weather is warming up, which is nice. It could kinda cap at about 20C, that would be warm enough to not wear a coat, but not so hot you melt commuting to work. I do hope the weekend will be nice though. Want to go to the seafront on our little trip, Weymouth or somewhere. I don’t know what it is with the sea; it just calms me down and makes me feel more complete.
Back from lunch. Can I just say: Oh. My. God. I decided to walk to House of Fraser at Monument as the weather was so nice, just to maybe pick up a new mascara. I was looking at pretty packages at the Benefit counter when a girl came over and asked if I wanted her to tell me about their new products. I hesitated just a nanosecond too long (while I was thinking that yes, I would actually like to know about that new product which is like benetint but isn’t benetint) and she managed to pin me down on a high chair and proceeded to slap stuff on my face at warp speed. I think I was in too much of a shock to move and just glazed over while she was fetching more and more product to rub on my face. Actually, on half of my face. Umm. I sat there thinking how on earth can I go back to work with half of my face covered with all sorts of stuff and managed to convey my worry to the girl. She was very understanding and decided to include the other half of my face in her experiment as well.
The end result? My face was completely orange and so shiny it could probably be seen from space, with some lovely red cheeks to boot, to give it that ‘healthy glow’, also known as the ‘clown look’. Nice. Obviously I hadn’t taken my makeup bag with me as I didn’t want to carry too much stuff on my trek over there so I had to sheepishly walk back to work with my shiny orange face trying hard to avoid catching anyone’s eye on the way. I’ve now managed to tone my ‘look’ down slightly with the help of tissues and a lot of powder, but I still feel oddly sticky… Talk about traumatic!
Having said that, I did in the end buy a benetint pocketpal (and got some free samples as well).

I forgot to show you how yesterday I had received a little parcel in the post and inside were these lovely earrings from Tilly Bloom. There was also a cute extra surprise in the form of vanilla chai tea included. I’ve been meaning to get some of her lovely jewellery for ages and am very pleased with the choice I made. You can find her jewellery also on Etsy.

I can categorically say that I hate Mondays. This Monday especially has been very hard for some reason. I’ve felt so tired all day that I had trouble keeping my eyes open. And since I was tired I could sense that I was being too Finnish (i.e. blunt) with people at work today… I just didn’t have the energy for all the exhausting dancing around subjects that is generally required over here. Oh well…
One thing that cheered me up every time I saw it in the mirror is this gorgeous heart pendant which I’ve been borrowing from Sooz. It was a case of love at first sight and I haven’t really taken it off since I got my hands on it. It’s from Sarah’s Sky and today I finally ordered one for myself.

I’ve just come home (I just wanted to take a picture of the necklace before I changed into my pyjamas :P), so now I’m off to the sofa to catch up with my Sky+ recording of Brothers & Sisters.

Posted by Marianne at 6:11 pm in my life in words, shopaholic, what I wore today
Since yesterday’s shopping trip went spectacularly wrong thanks to our car deciding not to co-operate, I decided to have another go today and headed to Richmond for some sales shopping cheer (while S has been out all day trying to part-exchange the car for something more reliable). And what a ‘successful’ trip it turned out to be! :D

I got two pairs of lovely shoes. The Monsoon ones I got with a 25% discount and the Oasis ones with a 50% discount. While the sun is trying to suggest that proper spring might finally be here, I’m determined to try to break my trainer-habit and wear some prettier shoes for work. It’s hard though as I’m always half asleep in the morning and have to run to catch the train etc. so I tend to just pull on what seems easiest and feels comfiest. But surely I can manage to wear pretty shoes for at least a couple of days a week if I really put my mind to it!

Laura Ashley had a mid season sale with lots of stuff marked as 50% off. I really had to show some restrain not to buy everything in there… Got a lovely summery bag, cute cushions for our office chairs (now all I need is cute office chairs… erm) and a necklace which for some reason I found irresistible. Oh and this lovely little glass drawer thing for my earrings and stuff. You’ll probably see it later on as I’m going to do a bedroom-y entry at some point.
All in all I’m quite pleased with all my bargains. Now I’ll just have to wait and see whether S comes home with a ‘bargain’ of his own…

Yay my computer finally arrived today. There it is in the box, isn’t it pretty? :D Now “someone” just has to put it all together. Ack, trying not to think about the stressfulness of trying to get everything built and installed and gah… It’ll be worth it in the end though!

After the computer had arrived we had some time to pop out to Oxford Street. We went there really as Stu needed some new work clothes and stuff. But you can’t really expect me to pass on complete bargains! I’ve been on the lookout for a long cardi type thing for ages – I really like the way this girl wears them with short skirts and such. So when I spotted this grey Red Herring number at Debenhams, with a “50% off” tag, I couldn’t resist! Maybe my jeans skirt will finally see some action with it. And when I was waiting for the husband while he was buying work shirts at M&S;, these cute shoes caught my eye and the fairly low price made them seem like a good idea. Well I can’t very well wear trainers to work, right?

Oh and I started watching Gossip Girl via Finnish TV (hei jos joku ulkosuomalainen ei vielä ole löytänyt kyseistä palvelua niin suosittelen. Pysyy hyvin perillä tärkeissä jutuissa kuten Inno ja suomalainen Huippumalli Haussa yms. :P), just out of curiosity really, as I suspected it might be a bit too ‘young’ for me, and the weirdest thing happened. All throughout the first episode I had this deja vu feeling and seemed to know what was going to happen next. I then realised that I’ve read it as a book at some point. I have absolutely no recollection of doing this, which is kinda funny, seeing what a phenomenon the TV series supposedly is. I dunno, is this what old age is like?

Doing your grocery shopping online truly is a lifesaver. Who doesn’t hate wasting their time at packed supermarkets at the weekends. It’s just that sometimes judging the size of things just from the weight given, and not by actually seeing and feeling the product, can be a bit tricky for us who are not so, how should I put it, au feit with numbers. As demonstrated by the picture of very peculiarly sized items that I received with my last order. :D That teeny pot of mayonnaise must have seemed like a bargain at the time! On the other hand, I won’t be running out of Fairy liquid any time soon…

Yesterday was all about shopping. We hit the shops on Oxford Street with Jenni and Sooz and walked until our little feet hurt like hell. About six hours straight. Can I just say, Primark really isn’t for me. It makes me feel extremely uncomfortable with the crowds, the overload of cheap shit and just with the general feeling of over-consumption. People buying sackloads of disposable clothes makes me feel somewhat unnervy.
The Hen Party morning didn’t start all that well. I woke up to a text message from Johanna saying that she couldn’t get on her flight as she had left her passport at home. Oh man! And this is after Annis phoned on thursday night to say that she didn’t manage to buy any flights as she only started looking last week! So that’s two down… I dread to think how many others will drop until we get to the party… The rain and the bomb threats are not really lifting my mood either at the moment. But ho hum, we’re off to Tesco’s now to get rest of the party food/drink. Hopefully it’ll all still turn out fun.

I went to pick up this small packet from the post office today. Inside was a little box that said Tiffany & co. and inside that a little pouch with the same logo. I got into a bit of a panic about my eBay habits getting out of hand right then. Especially with S looking suspiciously on. It turned out that inside the pouch was this little necklace (with again, the same logo) that I did indeed get from eBay. However, as far as it being an authentic Tiffany necklace goes, I paid all of 90p for it. :D Surely I can at least pretend it’s real? :P
The Easter break was very pleasant and most of all, productive. I organised most of our closets and threw out so much useless crap it’s not even real. It’s crazy how much shit you carry with you from house to house without ever really taking a proper look at it. I also sold some clothes and stuff on eBay, which makes me feel a bit better about spending so much time on there lately. :)
And then I did something radical. I moved all my clothes into the walk-in-wardrobe off the guest room, previously home to random crap and tools etc. Now that I’ve done it, I can’t for the life of me understand why I didn’t do this earlier! It’s so cool, I feel like Mariah Carey or someone. :D I can actually access my clothes and have my shoes and everything in one place. And since I also organised the guestroom, and rescued the beauty desk from underneath all the crap, what I have now is effectively a dressing room. Ha. There’s still some random boxes, bedding and sheets etc. in the wardrobe, but I’ll soon find a new home for those. :P The problem of course is that there’s no going back now. The next house will have to have a walk-in-wardrobe, anything less just won’t do…

I stayed in Rayleigh last week and yesterday we went to Lakeside with Nikki to do some sales shopping. Didn’t really get that much stuff. Well, apart from 9 pairs of socks… :| Nevertheless it was nice since I hadn’t really seen her for ages.
In the evening I battled the train, the wind and the rain with my (for some reason incredibly heavy) suitcase and moved myself over to Sooz’s in London. She’d gotten someone’s else shopping delivered by mistake, and since Sainsbury’s didn’t want it back we had a wonderful feast of potato skins and friend chicken and all sorts. Thank you mystery shopper!
This ‘health getting back to normal’ business has manifested itself in a lovely menstrual surprise, only a month after the last time! While it’s good news that everything is returning to normal, this whole being on the blob every month instead of 3 times a year gubbins is really rather annoying! It’s sunday and I had to get up at 8 because I felt so bad and in pain and bleugh.
I’m meeting up with Paul today and am trying to think of ideas for where to go and what to do. Especially if it’s pissing it down. I think we ought to go to the British Museum as then I could get an obligatory picture of the glass ceiling of the great court for my 365 thingy. I hope I won’t feel too shit all day. That would certainly suck.

Man oh man shopping can be hard work. :D I got some vouchers for my birthday (from Nikki & Ian and Chris & Amy) and today I finally had a chance to go out and spend them! We went to Oxford Street with Susie and walked our little legs off in search for the perfect autumn/winter bag. Way too many people in London on a Saturday. Way too many people who decide to stop right in front of you or cut you off or shout in your ear or… Uhh. Well anyways. I did manage to buy a lovely bag and also a hat (well I figure winter will probably come, eventually…). So, thanks for my pressies. :P
Stu just phoned, Susie’s making me dinner and Friends are on TV. I feel a bit sleepy and my feet ache.
We’re gonna go see Volver tomorrow. Yup.

Some time ago I sold two old compact digis on eBay in order to raise enough cash to get a new one. I always like to have a compact with me, even though I mostly shoot with an dSLR, but still, it’s nice to have something small and light you can take with you anywhere in your handbag. For quite some time my choice of compact has been a Canon Ixus. I’ve had two film versions of Ixus and one digital (400) over the years, this is now my fourth model of the series.
So, I managed to sell the old ones and had enough cash for the Ixus 60, which was the right kind of size with 6mp – enough for snapshots by any standards. But when I went to my Amazon shopping basket I found out that apparently the price had gone up by nearly a £100 since I’ve placed the camera in the basket only a couple of weeks earlier! :o How is that possible I wonder… Anyways, I then found a reasonable deal on eBay, from a seller from Hong Kong. All the feedback was positive and most people seemed to manage to receive their goods tax free as well. Well, I sort of knew I wouldn’t be that lucky, but even with the VAT the price would be around the same as what the camera cost inAmazonn pre price-hike. So I took the plunge and ordered it.
The camera got to Finland from Hong Kong extremely quickly, in three days, only to get stuck in the customs for nearly a week… The seller hadn’t included sufficient papers (probably in order to try to avoid import duty) which meant a whole lot of hassle at this end. I finally managed to pay all the extras yesterday and got the camera out. It is very cute and tiny I must say. I think I even prefer its Japanese name. :P But yeah, there are some drawbacks in ordering these sort of more expensive items from Hong Kong sellers (I’ve never had any problems with cheaper stuff, like film etc.). Also, the charger has an US plug (I was promised an adapter though), the manual is in Japanese (got to print out an English manual) and the promised warranty seems to only be valid in Japan… Oh well, fingers crossed there’s nothing majorly wrong with it eh. :D
Off to England tomorrow (again). Please don’t let it rain.

So, erm… went to pick up the car from servicing… and came home with a new one. :D Well, it wasn’t quite that straightforward – we did spend most of the day at the dealership trying to get the price right. Ohh but it’s so nice though. Already drove to mum’s (to show it off) and boy does it feel different (i.e. better) to the old one. So, in quite a bit of debt now, but still, loving the new car. Just loving it. <3
